The Recovery Room--Alexis's Story

Alexis

Three weeks ago Alexis came into rescue from a shelter. A few days later our vet discovered an infection in her spay incision that required a second surgery to clean and close. Her surgical recovery was pretty standard but then Kennel Cough started with a fever. A chest x-ray revealed an upper respiratory infection and pneumonia. She spent a day in emergency care on an IV for fluids and antibiotic. The very expensive Tamiflu was given to her for ten days. This baby has been a wonderful patient taking four antibiotics, being fed through a syringe and having her paws washed down with alcohol to control the fever. She is on the mend and hopefully on the tail end of this virus. She has slept in her foster's arms so the fever didn't get out of control. Alexis is a spoiled velcro dog we are all hoping for a full recovery and she is hoping to be in her fur ever home by the middle of August.
