April 29, 2009: Meet 8-year old Spree and 4-1/2-year old Krystal Rose, who came into SCGRRescue a month ago. We believe they are mother and daughter. These sweethearts were brought to a boarding kennel and abandoned there by their owner. To make matters worse, they were at the kennels for eight months, until they came to SCGRRescue. Spree and Krystal Rose were matted and dirty. Spree has entropian (inturned eyelids) and an eye and ear infection. In addition, she's severely obese. Krystal has infected ears as well, and by the severity of her infection and condition of both ears, it is apparent that she's been battling the infection for quite some time without the proper treatment.
They are the sweetest dogs possible: typical goldens. However, they are absolutely horrified when separated, even if just by a few feet, and just trying to walk them is difficult because they are constantly trying to be close to one another.
May 4th: Even though they have only been in foster care for a few days they are already making progress. With the love and care of their foster dad, Krystal and Spree are becoming more relaxed and more confident. Krystal and Spree love to play ball and are even showing interest in the neighborhood squirrels. Spree has her entropian surgery scheduled this week and will hopefully receive the much needed relief to live a happy doggie life again.
May 23rd: Krystal and Spree are continuing to make progress every day. They are still very protective of each other but are slowly and surely becoming more independent. Unfortunately, Krystal is still battling with her ear infection, due to the untreated infection and fluid build-up from the past; she will probably continue to have problems with that. Spree is looking much better as well and tries to keep up running after the ball with Krystal. You can tell she really enjoys it but she's just more limited due to her limited eye sight and the extra pounds she is carrying. She had a follow up vet check and her ear infection is pretty much healed but unfortunately her eye surgery wasn't as successful as we hoped and she will have to have a second surgery.
June 15th: I took Krystal and Spree aka Mama for their follow up vet check on thursday and both of them got a thumbs up from Dr Brown. He was very pleased with the outcome of Mama's eye surgery and her healing progress. With the help from her foster dad Dave, she is also making progress on her weight loss, and has lost 7 lbs. since she's been in his care, all those walks and hours of ball play seem to be paying off. She truly loves to play ball and sometimes even outruns Krystal and her foster sister Jade, she is so proud when she is able to retrieve the ball and bring it back to you. She would play for hours and does not let her weight hold her back.
Krystal's ear infection has healed nicely as well and with proper care, we can hopefully avoid any future infections. She has become the garden guardian and has a blast chasing after the squirrels. It is amazing to see their transformation, just a few weeks ago, these two girls were inseparable and anxious when apart from each other by just a few feet and now have turned into two independent, confident, playful, affectionate and beautiful girls. You know they are doing better when they start getting into trouble and their foster dad has to teach Krystal not to eat his plants and chew on rocks.
I am happy to announce that we can finally move on to the adoption phase and have a meeting scheduled for next week. Keep your paws crossed!
