Introducing Summer and her Summer Flowers

Summer

May 25, 2008

My name is Summer.  Until a week ago I wasn't smiling.  I was found wandering the streets, I was hungry. filthy...and I was very close to the delivery date of my puppies.  After a week in the shelter SCGRRescue came for me.  I was very frightened and had no idea my life was saved.  After a bath, a few good meals and a soft bed I took a look around.  I was in a home with a family and other canine pals, my yard was fenced and I was safe. Over the Memorial Day Weekend - after four days in my safe home -  I delivered my litter: one girl and four boys.  I had the help of volunteers and the best medical care.

I will update the pictures of my beautiful, content babies as they grow.  Thank you everyone for supporting this group that saved our lives.  My babies will be the Summer Flowers.

Honeysuckle, my first little boy, arrived at 9:54 PM on 5/24. Sweet William, my next son, arrived nearly an hour later at 10:45 PM.

Dan de Lion, my next son, arrived at 12:28AM but by 2:30 AM, I was exhausted and fell into a deep sleep with my three babies. When I wouldn't wake up, my midwoof and "doctor" rushed me to the emergency vet where they were told I was not in any danger. They gave me a shot to continue labor and Rosebud, my only daughter, was delivered at 3:57AM there at the clinic.  They decided to return home and Buttercup, my fourth son, arrived at 4:55AM.

So here are my beautiful little flowers on Day 1. I am so thankful to the four volunteers who spent the entire night watching and helping...and thankful for the chance at a new life for all of us.

My four boys - Sweet William, Buttercup, Dan de Lion and Honeysuckle - are doing great; they have doubled in size in just one week.

I enjoy one-on-one time with my daughter, Rosebud, when she's not bundled up to keep her warm.

She's so tiny and she started losing weight, so they have resorted to hand feeding her.  Here's foster dad, Dave, feeding her with the syringe; finally, after that, she started to suck with the bottle.

Note from the foster parents: Summer is true to her season - full of love, warmth, caring, nourishment, and maternal necessity.

We lost little Rosebud at 12:03AM, in spite of the valiant efforts by Summer and her foster parents.  She just went to sleep and never woke up; she never did start to thrive.  Rosebud has been buried in her foster parents' garden under a rosebush.

My boys are 17 days old now. Their eyes are open (although you can't tell from these pictures) and they're beginning to walk. Look how big they are!

The babies are three weeks old today and their foster mom thought they needed
to be exposed to something new.  The family put puppy kibble through the food processor and mixed it with some canned whelping milk.  They enjoyed so much that, as you can see, Sweet William fell asleep in his food.  Maybe they'll sleep a little longer so their foster mom can have some beauty rest.

The babies are almost four weeks old and their foster mom turned over the babysitting duties to her foster boyfriend, Thor. Thor takes being a pseudo-daddy very seriously.

Now listen up, son...

Something's missing here, the pup thinks!

Well, hello everyone! We thought you'd like new pictures of us.  We are now five and a half weeks old and very mobile, so we decided this morning to take a road trip. We're anxious to go to our new homes...it won't be long now!
